Themes in Bar/Bat Mitzvahs

We cater some Bar and Bat Mitzvahs. OK, a lot of Bar and Bat Mitzvahs! So today, we’d like to share some of the cool things we see, especially in “themes.” Specifically…

Sports themed Bar and Bat Mitzvahs are hot. From everything to Invitations in team colors or even those that look tickets to a sporting event! Some folks even rent out a stadium club or professional (major or minor league) field.

Thanks to Mazel Moments for the image!

Continuing with the sports theme, we’ve seen sign-in boards that features a photo of the child in uniform with their favorite team  or a team jersey or uniform as the sign-in instead of a guest book

Thanks to suitepaperie for the image

The seating cards are often miniature sports cards or hats or helmets with the table information.

As for the food (our specialty!) don’t do all the traditional types of offerings but do some that are related to the sport. For example, peanuts and crackerjacks as part of the appetizer offering if baseball themed – make sure to use the appropriately themed containers. And ask us about a “hot dog” station with all the fixings!

Any theme your family chooses will end up being special to you. Keep everyone involved and remember to have fun once the party starts!

Spirit of Jane Rodney Gala

On May 10, we were once again proud and honored to be the official caterer, and a sponsor, of the Jane Rodney Gala from the Susan G Komen Foundation. And, with over 20 tables to feed, we were thrilled to feed the guests and sponsors of this worth-while charity.

This was the 11th annual event and is sponsored by the Susan G Komen affiliate of Central & South Jersey. This year a new venue was chosen: the historic Trenton War Memorial. The Spirit of Jane Rodney Celebration remembers their late founder, Jane Rodney while honoring community leaders who shared her dedication to the fight against breast cancer.

Jane worked at the Breast Cancer Resource Center and brought the Race for the Cure to New Jersey in 1994. She inspired others to take action and many of their volunteers and supporters worked with Jane for many years. While Jane lost her own battle with breast cancer in 2002, her work lives on.

Here’s what Monica Smith, Director of Development of the Susan G Komen of Central and South Jersey chapter had to say about the event:

Guests walk the “pink” carpet to enter. The event continues with an amazing silent Room Set upauction, great music, and sit down dinner.

Exquisite Caterers was one of the sponsors, along with Bristol-Myers Squibb, Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield, Navigant, St. Peter’s Healthcare System.

Exquisite Caterers has been a sponsor for several years.

Why is Our Menu (And the Company) Different?

Take one look at our menu, or better yet, talk to your friends and neighbors who we’ve worked for,  and you’ll see instantly what makes Exquisite Caterers different.

As far as the menu, we’re best described as New American Chic, that just happens to be kosher. We have items like osso bucco, venison, and foie gras – all items that no other kosher caterer does. We try to find different items available. We recently started working with a new butcher that gets us American Kobe beef, venison, bison, quail, pheasant and more. These are things that are very hard to find and are still Kosher. We also go to new trendy restaurants and sometimes its just our new spin on an old classic.

As far as the company – the thing we are most proud of is our staff. Our workers – once they start working here we treat them as family. Our sous chef has been with us for 15 years, his assistant for 3 and my assistant for 2. My assistant before that was here for 7 years before he left to start his own business.  At Exquisite Caterers we have a saying “if you won’t eat it, don’t serve it.”  Each and every staff member takes great pride in what they do.

And, while we have won numerous awards (even in  vegan competitions!) we don’t need awards to know that we are good.  The hugs and kisses from our clients every week is an award in itself!

Kosher Caterer to the World – Well, the U.N. Anyway!

Image[1]On Monday, April 15th, 2013, we were once again honored to cater at the United Nations. This time for  a Yom Ha’atamaut (Israeli Independence Day) reception at the Ambassador River View Tent, at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City. We were invited by Israel’s Ambassador to the United Nations, H.E.  Mr. Ron Prosor, Well, when I say “Invited” I mean “Cater.

Exquisite Kosher Caterers at the United Nations!

Dave at the UN!

Over 500 UN Delegates and members of the NY Israeli and Jewish communities attended.

Exquisite Caterers is the kosher caterer for the United Nations, and we served the entire event – from full appetizers to desserts!

We received many compliments and our Beef Short Rib Spring Roll with Teriyaki BBQ Sauce (yum!!)  was a big hit!

Here’s what the mission said about the event:

220px-Miri_Ben-Ari_with_Violin_47b_[1]Our Mission had a ball last night rocking the UN with Miri Ben-Ari and over 500 UN delegates and members of the New York Israeli and Jewish communities to celebrate Israel’s 65th birthday…(Ms.) Ben-Ari gave a heart-stopping performance. Miri’s music has echoed from some of the world’s most celebrated stages – and last night she added yet another string to her bow as a “cultural ambassador” for the State of Israel.

We think they would have talked more about the food, but their mouths were full!

NJ Kosher and Glatt Kosher Catering

In 2002, Dave and Howie purchased Exquisite Caterers. Quite simply, Exquisite offers the best in Kosher and Glatt Kosher catering, either at the Marlboro Jewish Center, where we are the official caterer, or at your location.

Our goal is simple: We aim to make every event a memorable event – whether it’s a backyard barbecue or a grand wedding. Each event is special to the client and we treat it as such.

So, who are we?

  • Dave Esquenazi is a Graduate of Culinary Institute of America and an award winning chef. He was the manager and chef of Exquisite Caterers since 1997 and with Howie purchased the company in 2002.
  • Howie Heiberger has over 20 years of management and marketing expertise that has built the business up to what it is today. Howie is a 2010 recipient of the “Komen Superstar Award” from the Susan G Komen foundation. What can we say? He’s a mensch!

So if you’re planning a Bar Mitzvah, Bat Mitzvah, Kiddush, bris, wedding, corporate function, home or office party, tent party, or any other social event, Exquisite Caterers will bring its culinary expertise and delicious, creative kosher and glatt-kosher cuisine to your next event.

Each week, we’ll post something new here about us, the business, even a recipe or 2. Thank you for reading and we’ll see you back here next week!
